It is marvellous to be able to shout with genuine enthusiasm about the 2022 vintage, which I tasted three weeks ago in Burgundy. I think it’s the most exciting vintage I’ve tasted since 2015. I’m not a wild enthusiast for some of the recent hot vintages, so I was hugely relieved to find that the 2022 wines I tasted have freshness, elegance and balance. It was, actually, a pretty warm, dry year. But, unlike, for example in 2020, there was a larger crop to ripen, and it is this, I believe, which helped the grapes maintain an excellent balance with fresh acidity and modest alcohol levels.
We have not yet received all our allocations, but we are hopeful we will have more to sell this year !
We will again this year hold the tasting in the St James’s Room at 67 Pall Mall in central London. We hope to be joined by most of our Burgundian producers who will be able to present their wines to you themselves and help bring to life this formidable vintage.
