Burgundy 2021 En Primeur Tasting

Transport logistics, DHL, and Customs permitting, we will be holding our first En Primeur tasting since we offered the 2018s, three long years ago. How much the world has changed!
We were in Burgundy to taste the 2021s a few weeks ago, and look forward to presenting them to you – both the wines and the growers who will be present. Like us, they have missed their annual January trip over here.
Most of what we tasted was really good. It’s the kind of vintage which is becoming increasingly rare : lighter-coloured, fresh wines, with higher acidity. If the Pinot grape has been challenged in recent years to show its ability to adapt and retain its typicity in hotter, drier conditions, then 2021 gave it an opportunity to ripen in conditions which used to be considered the norm.
If you buy Burgundy, or follow the news, you will know, of course, that 2021 tells a different story from recent years: one of frosts, cool summer, not much sun, and tiny quantities. But there is SOME wine and I hope you will like the vintage.
If you’ve been to our tastings before, you’ll know the format. We’ll show a range of 2021s which will be mostly barrel-samples, though a few more 2021s will have been bottled by January. We will also show a range of 2020s, as we had no opportunity to show these last year. I could not imagine a greater contrast between these two vintages.
