The Weingut Wess Story

Weingut Wess Story

A bright purity of fruit shows itself in the wines of Christina Wess, who has been making wine from her new, trendy winery on the outskirts of Krems for a few vintages now. An impressive building where glass and steel have been interlaid in a traditional structure, echoing the stylishly clean yet authentic wines that she makes. Grapes are largely bought from seven different growers with whom she has been working for ten years, though she does own a lovely vineyard planted in Spitz as well as a newly planted parcel of Pinot Noir which will begin bearing fruit very soon.

Weingut Wess Wines

There are a few new wines from the Kremstal starting to appear. In the very challenging conditions of 2014, where rain in the Wachau made the vintage even more challenging than further East, Christina’s father, Rainer produced some marvelously intense wines, packed with energy. They are less fat and opulent than the last few vintages. In character they are just the kind of wines Rainer loved to make.

A quote from our supplier

“Our wines should be a time-capsule. We want the bottle to capture a specific day in the vineyard”.
