The Domaine Denis Race Story

It would seem that finding good Chablis is like waiting for a bus – just when you think one won’t come, two arrive at once. After searching so long for a Chablis to add to our portfolio, and finding the exciting, new Domaine du Triptyque, we now have a second.

Domaine Denis Race is not a new name to Chablis or, in fact, the UK. And when the opportunity to import its wines arrived, we thought it would make a very suitable addition to Domaine du Triptyque.

Denis Race is a fourth-generation estate. Denis, now retired, is still involved in the operation, but his wife, Laurence and two daughters, Claire and Marine have taken over the reins. The estate comprises of 20 hectares of 30–40 year-old vines, maintained “lutte raisonnée”, the level below organic certification.

Domaine Denis Race Wines

Grapes are grown on clay-limestone slopes with Kimmeridgian fossils, which, combined with good exposition to the Sun, create wines that represent classic expressions of the region – something we found was too commonly missing during our search. The wines are all vinified in stainless steel with no oak.

We start our journey with Domaine Denis Race with their 2023 Chablis which, despite the warm vintage, still shows good mineral freshness.
