We set off to Oxford this weekend for a College dinner and Classicists get-together to celebrate the retirement of our old tutor, Oliver Taplin, who was ultimately reponsible for putting together the Clark-Foyster partnership. The afternoon kicked off with a lecture on the Ancient Greek poet Anacreon, who celebrated in song the themes of wine and good company back in the 6th century BC.  This pretty well set the tone for the rest of the proceedings, which ended in the small hours in the college rooms of philosophy tutor Ralph Walker with yet more wine.
