Project Description
The Erich & Walter Polz Story

The Polz family has established a reputation as one of the top producers of Styrian Sauvignon, which marries the freshness of the old world styles with the fruity ripeness of the new world. The Klassik Sauvignon is in a fresh style, unoaked, and ready for early drinking. We also have a single vineyard Sauvignon, “Therese”, which shows great complexity, particularly with a few years of bottle age. The Therese vineyard is located high at about 450m with flint soils. It produces tightly structured wines.
Erich & Walter Polz Wines
Unlike many of the other wines in our Austrian portfolio, Sauvignon is an internationally recognised varietal, but Styria can definitely claim a place, along with Sancerre and Marlborough, as one of the top worldwide locations for this grape. The next generation is beginning to assume responsibilities here, and Christophe, son of Erich Polz, is now chief winemaker. There have been a few changes towards more reductive and perhaps less opulent wine making styles, but the unique terroir of the region remains primordial.
