Clos Fornelli, Tallone :
Josée Vanucci had enough of the Parisian corporate business world and decided to come home and devote herself to the family vineyard. Her father has been a member of the local co-operative, farming Kiwi fruit and 45 hectares of vines on the Terrasses de la Bravone since the 1970s, and the vines are all 30+ years old. Since 2005, Josée and her husband Fabrice have separated the estate's 16 best hectares of vines on the north east side of the island, growing on the fascinatingly varied soil of the Bravone valley, a sort of ancient granitic alluvium, and vinified them in an old nearby winery which they have bought and modernised simply but attractively. Red, white and rosé wines have been produced from Vermentinu, Sciacarellu, Nielluccio and a little Syrah. Their first vintage was 2005, and we began with just their fascinating red: La Robe d'Ange which stands out as an attractive, perfumed and spicy blend of Sciacarellu (85%) and Nielluccio (15%).
